In 2012, Holy Cross Lutheran Church began a prayer shawl ministry for people needing the warm arms of Jesus around them, a tangible example of God’s love and care. The shawls are made with prayer — before, during, and after their creation. Sometimes the people know who they are making the shawl for , and sometimes they don’t , but they pray for the person who will receive it just the same.
Since we began this ministry, we have given away over 65 shawls, and we have received many heartfelt comments on what blessings they have been to their recipients.
Those interested in this ministry can make their shawls at their leisure in their own homes and bring them to church where once a quarter we will dedicate them to our Lord’s service during Sunday worship. No need to “sign up” or become an official group member. But for those who would like to get together, we normally meet the first Sunday of the month, around 12:30 p.m., right after Adult Bible Study. We work on the shawls together, share patterns and ideas, enjoy fellowship, and pray for the recipients of the shawls. We can also assist anyone in learning to knit or crochet.
Completed shawls are available if you know someone who is ill, hurting, grieving, or even celebrating the birth of a child.
